Meet The Acupuncturist

Sarah Sievers is a licensed acupuncturist, board certified herbalist and nutritional consultant specializing in the treatment of women.

She graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC) in 2017 with a Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine. She is licensed as a Licensed Acupuncturist in Kansas and as a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in the state of New Mexico.  She most enjoyed learning about the treatment of gynecological disorders, childhood illness and pain disorders.  Sarah aspires to earn a Doctorate in Oriental Medicine in the years to come.

Sarah was born in Iowa and grew up in a small town called Prairie City near Des Moines.  Her mother is a nurse who showed her the value of a caring heart and her father who is a mechanic taught her that anything can be fixed if you have the right tools, knowhow and some perseverance.

Sarah was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (an inflammation of the urinary bladder) when she was 19 years old.  Her urologist told her there was nothing that could be done and recommended Ibuprofen twice a day for life.  She was encouraged to see a local acupuncturist and while this was not her first experience with acupuncture she didn’t know what kind of outcome she should expect. She received two acupuncture treatments, took Chinese herbs daily for a month and was advised that she should avoid nightshades for a while.  The symptomatic relief was very fast and she hasn’t had a recurrence of symptoms in more than 13 years.

At the time, she was working as a veterinary technician and had no intention of leaving the medical field and still loved what she did but also felt the need for a change so she went to work for the same acupuncturist who had helped her previously.

As Sarah watched patients come and go from that small acupuncture clinic, she heard patients rave about how effective his treatments were and watched them heal and thrive. She was inspired to look for a way in which she could do the same.

During her time at Southwest Acupuncture College (SWAC) she was often challenged by her ADD – a diagnosis given to her in kindergarten.  Acupuncture became her saving grace once again.  Sarah wished she had known of the benefits when she was younger, because she may have avoided all the struggles she had endured in elementary, middle school and worst of all high school.

Early in her second year at SWAC she gave birth to her first son and suddenly her eyes were opened to all the ways in which women really are underserved and how poorly their bodies are understood in conventional medicine.  During her training she found that Oriental medicine understood the female body on a level above that of conventional medicine and dedicated extra time to the study of women's health.

Sarah’s goal every day is to help someone live their life more comfortably and to help those who have lost hope or have been told they just have to live with it.  She believes a diagnosis should not be a label but rather the beginning of a journey to greater health.

Sarah spends as much time as possible with her husband, children, dog and two cats.  She has a background in instrumental music, choir, and theatre.  She knows endless amounts of odd trivia especially in the realm of animals of all types.  She collects books and is perpetually in search of more knowledge because the world needs nerds too.
